"Christie Whitman’s Blueprint for a Better Education," 1993
Courtesy, Special Collections/University Archives, Rutgers University Libraries.

Christine Todd Whitman, (1946- ), a Republican from Somerset County, is the first woman to be elected to the governorship of New Jersey. In this flyer from her successful 1993 election campaign, she sets forth her position on educational spending and takes her opponent, incumbent governor James Florio, to task for his fiscal policies.

Whitman was elected to a second term in 1997.  She resigned as governor in January 2001 to become Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency under President George W. Bush, a position she held until 2003.
