In September 1972, 400 first-year women and 75 transferring women
entered Rutgers College, the first to do so in the college's 206-year history. Getting
involved in student government, clubs, and fraternities, they changed the course of the
college's life forever. At the time, only 11% of the Rutgers College faculty were women
and female students were outnumbered by men 13 to 1.
