New Jersey Anti-Wage Discrimination Act, 1952
Source, Laws of New Jersey, 1952, Chapter 34, Section 11, 56
This act prohibited discrimination "in any way in
the rate or method of payment of wages to any employee because of his or her sex."
A major step forward, the act sought to correct wage discrepancies
between female and male workers. It did not cover many female
workers, however, because it did not apply to farm workers or women
working in hotels or domestic service. The act was sponsored by Republic
Assemblywoman Florence Dwyer of Elizabeth.
