Jessie Redmon Fauset (1882-1961)

Jessie Redmon Fauset was born in Frederickville, Camden County.
During her important career as literary editor of Crisis, the official publication of the
NAACP, she often highlighted the work of African-American women. Her novel,
The Chinaberry
Tree (1931) is set in a small New Jersey town. Fauset moved to Montclair in 1939.
