The Clara Barton School

This post card from the 1920s shows the first public school in New Jersey, opened by Clara Barton in Bordentown in 1852.  Barton later worked as a nurse in the Civil War and engaged in relief efforts during the Franco-Prussian War.  In 1881 she founded the American Red Cross.

Clara Barton's School was restored and honored by school children in 1923.
