 "Displaced", a bronze sculpture by Dorothea Greenbaum, (1895 - 1986), 1968.

Courtesy, Private Collection

Dorothea Schwarcz Greenbaum, 1893-1986, started her artistic career as a painter at the Arts Students League and later worked primarily as a sculptor in bronze and marble. She was against fascism and worked to improve the lives and rights of artists, especially during the McCarthy era. Greenbaum was a member of the Sculptors Guild, an avant-garde group, and a founder of Artists Equity. This monumental work (in size and imagery) depicts a tragic human figure emerging from the background and expresses the artist’s concerns about world peace and her love of humanity.
